Comment: I was looking through the net for mention of my family, and found my fathers' (Keith E. Kemp) obituary in your memorials page - Thank you. I don't remember him telling any stories about the White Alice program, but I'll ask Mom if she remembers anything about those years. If anyone knew him during his time with White Alice, I'd be pleased if you'd contact me - My kids never really got to know him well, what with the distance between here and AK, and I'd like to tell them about this. Thank

Comment: I was at Indian Mountain (UTOPIA) from May 54 to May 55. We did not have White Alice at that time but I know it came to Indian Mountain latter. From the photos of Indian Mountain I think that the station was not on the peek of the mountain.

Comment: Great site! I was a very young pup working on the Greenland to Eest extension of the DEW tropo sites across the North Atlantic called NARS. I was a satcom guy but found the ITT NARS experience very enriching. I worked with some of the old timers on NARS who had cut their teeth on just about anything REL tropo to include guys who spent the early years on the White Alice system. Our new old site is: www.northatlanticradiosystem.com

Comment: Although all the sites were closed by the time I got on the scene, the remnents were still quite visible on the mountain tops and bare tundra in 1995-96. At Anvil Mountain, rack upon rack of vacuum tube equipment was still in place, slowly deteriorating in the arctic environment. At Barter Island we had to topple and scrap the atnennas as they interferred with the satelite signal. I served in the Air Force at Elmendorf overseeing contractor compliance at the long range radar sites in '95-'9

Comment: I was the commander of the Army element stationed at Nek Lake, that operated the little known link from there to Eklutna. There there three army troops assigned, initially operating an AN/MRC 69 link, later replaced in 1968 with an AN/TRC 90 link.

Comment: Looking at the comments in the Guestbook, I note many many names I'm familiar with. I worked WACS from 1960-70, stayed on with RCA as ALASCOM, retired from PTI when sold to AT&T in 1996, and can you imagine, still with AT&T (47th year in ANC) Was sad to hear the passing of ANdy Cowan, Ab Karim and Ernie Garner.. Knew those boys well.
For all of you old WACS guys, stay well and happy!

Comment: You had to see it to believe it. Every now and then I have dreams about some of the sites. The other day I tried to find PML on Google maps because there I saw an amazing view of the bay from a cliff while hiking. Coordinates? My house in Vernon is only 10ft difference from the GPS reading. The earth station here is also accurate but other points I've checked are off by hundreds of feet. Lena Point Juneau has the peninsula obscured? DRJ was visible, spent about 20 months there should have staid
