ANCHORAGE

Larry Beary, 66

Anchorage resident Larry W. Beary, 66, died Oct. 21, 2004, at his home of natural causes.

Services were held Oct. 24 at Witzleben Family Funeral Homes. He was buried Oct. 28 at Old Louden Cemetery in Galena.

Mr. Beary was born Jan. 9, 1938, in Hardin, Mont. He attended Hardin High School, served in the United States Army and worked for Power Equipment after his discharge. He married JoAnn Mindt in 1963. They moved to Kenai in 1968 with their son. In 1971, Mr. Beary moved his family, including a daughter, to Kalakaket Creek, where he was a heavy equipment mechanic. While living in Alaska he found his love of flying.

In 1973, Mr. Beary moved to Galena, where he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for the state of Alaska. While in Galena, he made lifelong friends and enjoyed hunting and fishing on the Yukon River. He loved to smoke salmon and moose jerky in his homemade smoker.

In 1990, he married Pilar Sibayan of the Philippines and moved to Anchorage, where he spent his retirement. During these years he continued to go camping and fishing in the summers, when he enjoyed visiting with the many people he met. He also spent his time making scroll-saw clocks and other woodworking projects.

"Although he moved from Galena, he always considered it to be his home," his family wrote. "He cherished the many friends he made up and down the Yukon River and considered these to be the happiest memories of his life. He will be missed for many things but notably for his generous nature, quick grin and passing wave."

Survivors include his wife, Pilar, and her family of Anchorage; daughter, Michele of Anchorage; ex-wife, JoAnn Beary and sister-in-law, Doris Crawford of Hardin; and sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Samuel McAdams of Lake City, Fla.

Mr. Beary was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Audrey; sister, Janice Kay; and son, Michael "Hondo."

Arrangements were with Witzleben Family Funeral Homes.
