|Longtime Eagle River resident James H. Zuehsow, 65, died on Dec. 19,
2009, of a heart attack at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at the Eagle River Elks Lodge, 17111 N. Eagle River Loop Road.
James was born Aug. 2, 1944, and grew up in Chicago and Villa Park, Ill.
He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Gordon in Georgia and Fort Greely, Arctic Test Center, and Delta Junction, and was honorably discharged in 1966.
James had a band and put on shows to raise money to help the people of Valdez after the 1964 earthquake. He worked on a White Alice Site at Lake Iliama from 1968 to 1970. He worked on a community development program from 1971 until he started working for Alascom as a technician, later retiring from AT&T in 2008. James was an active member of both the Lions and Elks clubs.
James is survived by his mother, Shirley Zuehsow of Sun City, Ariz.; sister, Linda Phillips of Spring City, Utah; brother, Richard of Ashburn, Va.; 11 nieces and nephews; and 21 great-nieces and -nephews.
